About the artwork: This early work by Jean-Michel Basquiat, New York/New Wave, was first exhibited at the seminal group exhibition at the MoMA P.S.1 gallery in 1981 that was also titled "New York/New Wave". Basquiat designed this promotional graffiti sign for the exhibition, which featured more than 100 artists from the avant-garde New Wave scene, including Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. The exhibition is credited with launching Basquiat's career.
