Tom Wesselmann "Smoker #1" Playing Cards

This playing card deck features one of Tom Wesselmann’s most iconic pieces of art, Smoker 1 (Mouth 12) from 1967. The mouth is set in the center of the box against a black background. The font used on the cards, designed by the artist's wife Claire, was prepared for the layout of the Tom Wesselmann monograph published by Abrams (Abbeville Press) in 1980.

About the artwork: Wesselmann extended his focus of his Mouth series to include smoking lips when one of his models, Peggy Sarno, paused to smoke a cigarette when Wesselmann was sketching her mouth. The delicate wisps of smoke against the red, seductive lips created an even more alluring representation of the isolated female form.
